I had previously visited Rocky mountain cottage a few years back, on a dark, cold December evening to see their winter resident, Santa! During the summer months, Santa returns to the North Pole to his other residence and this stunning mountain side venue is transformed from a winter wonderland into a wedding wonderland! I was really looking forward to my trip to this venue to photograph Cody & Ceala’s wedding.

I met Ceala at here familys stunning home in the country, which was the perfect setup for the getting ready shots, even with an outside bar in the garden! A short hop across to the chapel and then on to Rocky mountain cottage after navigating some tricky traffic around Newry! Once we arrived at the venue, the party was in full swing – one of the great things about this venue is the collection of outdoor and indoor spaces for the drinks reception and pre meal entertainment.

The weather was kind to us and we captured lots of great shots in and around the venue, including inside the cottage where Santa normally resides. After dinner, we took advantage of the low light to capture some more images with the dramatic mountain backdrop before we lost the light entirely! This venue really gave me the opportunity to make the most out of my flash equipment and especially the LED lighting I use which was perfect for the lower light atmosphere in the cottage.

I can’t wait to get back to photograph some weddings again next year at Rocky Mountain cottage, it’s up there with the best venues in the country now for sure!
